GATEWAY ANIMAL THERAPIES

"Getting to the Heart of the Matter"

ABOUT RUTH

From and early age, Ruth has been drawn to helping animals and developed a particular passion for horses very early on. Her love and passion for other animals became apparent as her life took form and although her initial career as a teacher was not what made her happy, she feels extremely lucky to now be in a position to do what she loves. She could never envisage life without animals and has adopted, rescued and rehomed many in the past. She feels truly blessed to be working with beings whom she senses are just waiting for people to connect with them on a deeper level.

Ruth has a deep and easy connection with animals of all species based on love, knowledge and understanding and is often able to develop a very trusting relationship with an animal, even in difficult situations. This love has taken Ruth on a path which has led to her developing her natural healing gifts and training in therapies she feels, will combine to give an effective package of Complimentary Care.

Ruth left college and worked as a teacher (Head of Dept) for nearly 30 years and a youth worker (Senior Leader) for 10 years, which gave her the opportunity to own and compete horses. Ruth began her present career as a complementary therapist when her horse BJ, who had spavins in both hocks, improved dramatically after only two sessions of Healing from her friend, the late Margaret Goodwin. After learning to sense the electro magnetic energy patterns which we all have, she realised she also had the ability to heal and went on to help many animals and people.

Ruth has gone on to learn different types of Healing and greatly expand her knowledge and skills in this area. She has found Healing to be very effective in many, many situations as it truly does not matter what the condition or diagnosis is.

She found the Bowen Technique when she was looking for something which addressed the asymmetry and postural problems in the body more directly than Healing.

"The effect  on both my horse and myself was amazing. They showed up aspects of physical imbalances not previously realised when treated by other modalities. After the second treatment on myself I hit cloud nine!"

She trained for 2 years and qualified (2001) in both the human Bowen Technique and Equine Muscle Release Therapy (Bowen for Horses). In 2006, having already treated many dogs, she qualified in Bowen for small animals (Cat and Canine Muscle Release Therapy).

"After 10 years I am still constantly amazed at the ability of these gentle therapies to help all manner of physical conditions. Even in the very elderly, poorly animals. or those which have conditions not easily treatable by more conventional means."

"Healing and Bowen Technique were the gentlest most powerfully dynamic and effective therapies I had ever seen .... and in 10 years of using them I have not changed my mind. "

Due to her own personal journey through life, Ruth has found, used and trained in other techniques,  EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) is the one Ruth uses the most, which helps people move on in their life after trauma, hurts, fears and phobias. It can also be used for physical pain!

Ruth particularly likes to use Flower Remedies (e.g. Dr Bach's remedies) which are fantastic for calming and rebalancing the emotions of both people and animals - The trick is getting inside the animal's mind!

Ruth's knowledge and experience of healing animals with these therapies is extensive and she travels many miles to see clients of all types.

Ruth acknowledges the benefits of other complementary therapies and works with other practitioners to provide a more complete and effective care system if necessary.

Ruth has helped animals in various charities including HAPPA and spent some time treating injured Greyhounds racing at Belle Vue Stadium in Manchester with Veterinary Surgeon, Diana Hodson.

Ruth is a member of the Bowen Technique Academy of Australia (BTAA), The Bowen Technique Association UK, the BTAA accredited Equus College of Learning and Research (ECL&R) through which she trained as an Equine, Cat and Canine Muscle Release Therapy practitioner.  She belongs to the Reiki and Seichem Association of Healers (RASA), accredited by the UK Reiki Council, and AAMET, the Association for the Advancement of Meridian Energy Techniques. Ruth is trained in Anatomy, Physiology, Biomechanics and First Aid and maintains required annual Continued Professional Development every year.

Christine Fenton, Boyle, Eire says -

"I have known Ruth since 1995 both in a professional setting as a teacher and in the “animal arena”. She has an unusual sensitivity to animals and appears to understand the animal’s moods and symptoms in a way I have not seen before. By her very presence she appears to affect them.  I have seen some very nervous and wary animals become unusually relaxed when Ruth is handling them.

The bonus I have found with Ruth is that she is able to manage the practical considerations of animal care alongside the more empathetic approach thereby leading to a “happier beastie”.

I recommend her to any animal owner, whatever the make or size of creature. The work she is doing is extremely useful stuff and would be of huge benefit to many horses and dogs. "
